I was trying to think of some American equivalent to Iceland, and the best I came up with was Idaho. But only if Boise is as crazy and expensive as Reyjkavikaksd is said to be - which I doubt. But the similarities are there: both are remote. Both have beautifully changing landscapes. And they are (usually) never mentioned in conversations like "Where should we go on vacation? How about Idaho!"
